Brussels, 11 September 2017 – The European Commission and European Parliament are holding a planned meeting on the EU’s new trade defence regime tomorrow (12 September). Ahead of this engagement, AEGIS Europe has applauded the stance taken by the Parliament on ensuring that Europe has sufficiently strong, and legally robust, trade defences in place to counter dumping into the EU.

Brussels, 4 July 2017 – AEGIS Europe has expressed major concerns regarding the approach being taken by DG Trade in the first expiry review of anti-dumping measures on imports of open mesh fabrics of glass fibres originating from China. This case comes at a crucial moment, one week before the start of the Trilogue on a new EU Anti-Dumping methodology, currently scheduled for 12 July. 

Brussels, 20 June 2017 – MEPs in the European Parliament will today vote on a committee report regarding the Commission's proposal for a new ‘non-standard’ methodology to be used in anti-dumping proceedings against non-market economies. AEGIS Europe urges MEPs to recognise the need for clear definitions, formalised due process, and an unambiguously effective non-standard anti-dumping methodology.

11 May 2017 / Following the EU Trade Ministers agreement a common position regarding the new anti-dumping methodology on 11 May - AEGIS Europe called on policy makers ensure that effective Anti-Dumping measures are implemented.

4 April 2017 / The People's Republic of China is attacking the European Union at the World Trade Organization (WTO) with regards to the EU’s anti-dumping law. China wants the EU to restrict anti-dumping measures to situations where prices for Chinese products in Europe fall below domestic prices in China, ignoring the state-sponsored distortions of prices in China.

13 March 2017 / Applying a "divide and conquer" strategy, China has notified the WTO of its intention to proceed with a panel request only against the EU to be treated as a market economy in anti-dumping procedures, a treatment which would essentially render those measures useless to counteract dumped imports from China.

8 March 2017 / Final figures from Eurostat show that the 2016 EU trade deficit with China remains severely unbalanced at almost €175 billion Euros.  The 2016 EU trade deficit with China is almost on par with the record high of 2015 which equates to around seven million containers that arrive fully loaded in Europe and go back to China empty.

Brussels, 19 December 2016 - Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement - a coalition of leading U.S. industry groups opposed to the automatic granting of market economy status for China at the end of 2016 - explains in a  video what's the issue of China MES: "China's Market Economy Status Debate, Explained". The video was published last May.

9 December 2016 / The anti-dumping instruments used by the EU and other major WTO trading partners, such as the United States and Japan, will remain unchanged after a minor element in a single section of China's WTO Accession Protocol expires on 11 December 2016. This reality stands in stark contrast with China’s claim that the way other WTO members should treat it in anti-dumping investigations must change dramatically as of that date.
